Toronto maple leafs playoff history7/31/2023 The lineup adjustment for the Leafs will almost certainly involve rookie Matthew Knies entering the lineup, and Calle Jarnkrok elevating to the top line. The Department of Player Safety has suspended Michael Bunting for three playoff games.īunting gets the boot for this hit /PBVtnu3QZn ![]() – Bunting has been neither fined nor suspended previously in his 187-game NHL career. – This is an illegal check to the head and interference This is an illegal check to the head delivered to a player who has no reason to anticipate any contact, let alone contact with sufficient force to cause an injury. The puck is some distance from both players when contact is initiated by Bunting. ![]() This is also not a case in which two players approaching a puck simultaneously are mutually prepared for contact to occur as they battle for space. Therefore, he should have no reason to expect to be checked, making him particularly vulnerable. Cernak is never in possession of the puck during the sequence. It is also important to note that this is also interference. Bunting unnecessarily extends his body upward into Cernak’s head to deliver this check, missing his core completely and picking the head. Second, the head contact on the play is avoidable. It is the head that absorbs nearly all of the force of the check. Bunting’s upper arm and elbow make forceful and direct contact with the head of Cernak. ![]() It is important to note that both elements of the illegal check to the head rule are satisfied on this play.įirst, the head is clearly the main point of contact. This is both an illegal check to the head and interference. Bunting and Cernak turn to locate the puck, with Bunting slightly ahead of Cernak.Īs the puck wraps around the net, Bunting cuts back into Cernak, elevating significantly into the contact and picking his head, making it the main point of contact on a hit where such head contact was avoidable. Tuesday night in Toronto, Maple Leafs forward Michael Bunting was assessed a match penalty for an illegal check to the head of Lightning defenseman Erik Cernak, causing an injury.Īs the video shows, the Maple Leafs win a faceoff and take a shot toward the goal that bounces into the corner. The equivalent of five more games for a player with no history, though? Bunting absolutely deserved supplemental discipline for a needless, reckless play away from the puck that caused an injury to Cernak, but it doesn’t add up. In a month when Minnesota’s Ryan Hartman - who has a suspension history dating back to an illegal hit to the head on Gabriel Landeskog in the 2018 playoffs - received one regular-season game for his interference infraction on Nik Ehlers (who missed time), it seems disproportionate, while still recognizing Bunting’s hit deserved more games for more clearly/principally targeting the head. Bunting’s suspension of three playoff games, therefore, makes this the harshest punishment handed out this year. ![]() The NHL has issued 21 suspensions this season, the longest being three games - Nicolas Aube-Kubel’s illegal check to the head on Cal Foote, Jeff Skinner’s high-sticking of Jake Guentzel, and K’Andre Miller’s spitting incident involving Drew Doughty. Knowing the Department of Player Safety is applying some kind of multiplier in the playoffs, this makes this the most egregious suspendable offense of the entire 2022-23 NHL season so far according to the league. The ruling on Bunting’s illegal check to the head is three games, or as we’re told, the equivalent of six regular-season games. Time is indeed a flat circle when it comes to this team and the postseason. A suspension at playoff time is clockwork at this point for the Maple Leafs.įor the Leafs, the last 24 hours have included a really tough Game 1 loss and now a suspended player. Foreign plug adapter7/31/2023 ![]() As a rule, high powered devices such as hairdryers and straighteners cannot be used with a travel adaptor, with the advice being to purchase cheap ones when you’ve arrived at your destination.Īmazon is usually the best place to head for travel adaptors, as you can get hold of highly-rated products for sometimes a fraction of the high street price (and with Prime Delivery). While the Epicka is the smallest full-featured universal plug adapter that weve found, you can go even smaller and more minimalist in travel adapters with the. ![]() Good news is, all EU countries have the same voltage as the UK, so it’s only the USA, South America, Asia, Australasia and Africa that you need to think about. For world travelers, this is the perfect kit to ensure power connectivity in most countries you may travel to. Many devices are dual voltage rated, so you may not even require a transformer even so, it’s always best to check the book of words to double-check. The World Travel Adapter Kit includes a set of seven AC plugs with prongs that fit different electrical outlets around the world, each laser-etched with the regions they are compatible with. Not all travel adaptors will transform voltage, so it’s always worth checking to see if you need to purchase a voltage transformer alongside the adapter. If you have a laptop that charges via USB-C, look for a travel adaptor with built-in USB-PD (USB Power Delivery), which can send 100W into a laptop. This converter has FCC, RoHS, and CE certified safety system with a 6. Most will have at least a couple of USB slots check they're rated 2.4V, which will refuel your phone faster, and means it can cope with a tablet, too.īetter still, look for Quick Charge 3.0 (QC 3.0), which does it ever faster. HAOZI Universal Travel Adapter is a travel adapter and voltage converter that’s certified for safety. Manufacturers have now standardised plug fuse ratings to be either 3A or 13A. 13A Fuse Washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, iron. The best travel adapters have USB sockets, so charging up phones, tablets and other portable devices should be fairly convenient. Plugs for appliances rated between about 700 watts and 3000 watts (the maximum rating of a wall socket) should be fitted with a 13-amp fuse (coloured brown). As a bonus the SZROBOY comes packed in a small black leather bag. There's also a USB-C port for quickly recharging a newer laptop. As well as slide-out adaptors that are good for 200 countries, the SZROBOY has three USB slots, each capable of recharging at the super-fast 2.4-amps rate. There's nothing particularly standout about the SZROBOY, but it's a good value combination of some great features. ![]() There just isn't a credible story here, which may be why this is the first Fifty Shades to clock in short of two hours (and it has a montage that cycles through highlights of the trilogy). The characters introduced in the last film don't really matter. That last item also serves as another blaring waning sign about the scary control freak that is this franchise's supposed brooding, Byronic hero, but we'll get more into that later. If you thought the previous film was struggling to stretch enough story to fill a feature-length runtime, then just wait until you watch the new movie where we have such scintillating plotlines like whether Christian's brother might be cheating on his girlfriend or Christian being mad because Ana hasn't changed her work email to her new married name. It's hilariously bad and incompetent, whereas Fifty Shades Freed is slightly better simply because there's less of everything, which also includes less of a reason to exist. It's hard to say which in this trilogy is the worst film but I still venture that the second, Fifty Shades Darker, is the winner in that regard. Meanwhile, the happy couple is challenged by two foes: a vengeful Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson) and the prospect of children. She finds ways to assert her independence and defiance. While honeymooning in France, Christian still can't help his domineering ways and instructs Ana not to sunbathe topless. If you're like me you'll scratch your head and wonder, "Was that it?"Īnastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) are now Mr. This is a franchise that wants to go out in a toe-curling climax but goes out with a whimper. The actors are free at last from the mechanical sex scenes that populate these films, free at last from their terrible chemistry with which they cannot conceal, free at last from having to say stilted dialogue for stilted characters, and free at last from the six hours of boredom and overstated kink. Director James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross) is free from having to bring this silly thing to straight-laced life. James' best-selling erotic novels have made for pretty lifeless big screen entries. I think Fifty Shades Freed as a title works well not just for the audience but also the actors, as everyone is celebrating putting one of Hollywood's least engaging film franchises well behind them. Tidal surge remix7/31/2023 It came as huge areas of the country yesterday ground to a halt after overnight snow and freezing temperatures.įorecasts of sleet, snow and hail have been issued, with 148 other alerts and warnings still current as wintry showers are expected for Saturday morning. “Therefore we took the decision to evacuate areas which were most at risk.” “While it appears we have avoided major flooding it is important for residents to understand that we were not prepared to risk people’s lives on whether the area would significantly flood or not. Norfolk’s temporary Deputy Chief Constable Nick Dean, who has been leading the multi-agency response to the flooding warnings, said: “Although the risk of flooding has receded, we won’t know the full extent of any damage caused by the high tides until daylight hours. Steve Carson, UK coastguard duty commander, said the crew sent a Mayday alert before abandoning the ship with the weather making the rescue “challenging”. Seven people were also rescued from a sinking cargo ship about 35 nautical miles off Ramsgate, Kent. The man had to be pulled out of the River Yare near Haven Bridge about 9pm on Friday night. Lat night, emergency crews were called out to more than a dozen flood-related incidents, including people stuck in flood waters – with one man arrested for public order offences after jumping into the river in Great Yarmouth. The Environment Agency said the coast had escaped the predicted floods “because the combined surge and high tides aren’t happening at the same time, as a result of wind”. Others claimed the winds were pushing the waves away from shore yesterday with residents this morning told they can return to their homes.Ī cop offers flood risk information to a resident in Jaywick, EssexĪuthorities were last night on high alert for tides predicted to exceed flood levels that hit Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex and claimed the lives of more than 300 people in 1953. “I am not going anywhere, I don’t think there’s a danger and the sea looks too calm.” Matthew Woolston, who lives close to the seafront, said: “People have been evacuated so many times they don’t believe it mass flooding is going to happen. If it really comes to it I will jump in the car and drive off.”įellow resident Steve Binch, 57, added: “I can always go upstairs.” Last time in 2013 they got it wrong and people had the hump. “The cops hype it all up, it’s like a PR thing. I’ve lived here on and off for 40 years and I’m not worried. One local, who only gave his name as Tommy, said: “I’m not moving and a lot of other people round here feel the same. Residents on the east coast waited for the storm surge to hit during the second high tide, with gale-force winds and higher than usual tides expected to bring waves crashing over coastal defences.īut the risk of flooding in Thanet was low and no sandbags were issued to residential properties.Ī spokesman reminded people to stay away from coastal paths and promenades due to rough sea conditions.Įssex Police deputy chief constable Matthew Horne, who lead the multi-agency operation overnight, said: “I am absolutely clear that the collective decision to evacuate residents in Jaywick and to provide a rest centre in West Mersea for people should it be required was the right thing to do. ![]() The Environment Agency (EA) issued 17 severe warnings – which warn of danger to life – with those in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex deemed most at risk. But with many locals refusing to leave their homes, saying it was all “hype”, police have spoken out saying they would make the same decision again. Venture seas use item7/31/2023 ![]() How is it a “nanny state” or “snooping” to require businesses to be honest about their service? This isn’t even necessarily an action a government would have to perform - it could be carried out by classification societies. When interviewed by the BBC, the company represented their submersible as very safe, certainly not as something likely to kill its passengers. I seriously doubt the passengers onboard were aware of OceanGate’s whistleblower lawsuit or the claim that the viewport is not rated for the depth it is used at. Personally, I think it ought to be illegal to misrepresent your service’s safety. It's easy to imagine scenarios where this gets out of hand. To get it you'd need a nanny state that snoops on everyone and steps in to stop you "for your own safety". > You can't stop that, and personally, I don't think its a good idea. Piloting a stolen (but seaworthy) deep-sea submersible to the wreckage of the Titanic - that was only able to make right-hand turns due to a "sub club" anti-theft device - was a major plot point in the pilot episode of the TV series "Pinky and the Brain". The whole thing was just cobbled together, not fully thought out or vetted, and yet the intent was to journey to one of the most unforgiving environments imaginable.īut getting back to the account of the reversed motor above - it is one of the purest examples I can now think of where life imitates art. We also learned that there were flammable materials within the pressure vessel, no practical contingency plan to speak of, no emergency beacon fitted, the list goes on. Their test program was extremely lightweight to say the least, and the results that came back from what little hull testing they did do were ignored, resulting in the dismissal of an internal whistleblower. ![]() Looking at the accounts reported to date, the OceanGate engineering culture was basically non-existent. If they had encountered a program-destroying but non-catastrophic failure earlier on, it is possible we wouldn't be looking at one of the many horrific outcomes that this incident will likely resolve to. It is simply unbelievable that the company was even able to get to the point of diving to such depths with humans aboard. Patina copper pen7/30/2023 I think this is a great nib for this particular pen - the polycarbonate and zirconium finish are topped off with the steel nib. The steel nib is a great writer - fine, crisp, precise, not too wet or dry, and pretty quick with drying times. They are engraved with Bock, some flourishes around the nib, and the Bock logo. These nibs have a single slit and round breather holes. ![]() The titanium pen has a medium titanium nib. The copper pen has a medium 14kt yellow gold nib. The polycarbonate pen has a fine steel nib. I love their designs, shapes, size, and the attention to detail. The sections are either a dark, grey zirconium (on the polycarbonate body), copper (on the copper body), or titanium (on the titanium body). The ribs on the section also match those on the rest of the pen. It looks smooth and seamless, as the section tapers and goes straight into the nib. I like that there isn't a huge ridge before the nib. The section is round, ribbed, and tapers towards the nib, ending quite close to the nib. They're not tiny little threads, and I like how they look - they separate the section and barrel, but without being too fancy. The sections are nice and long - they start with a few, wide, solid threads for capping the pen. The rings are not very pronounced - they look more pronounced than they feel in hand. I like how this looks - it gives them a machined look, but in an organized, classy way. All three have the same rings on them, running from top to bottom. The barrel and cap are: polycarbonate, titanium, or copper.
